Adam Akmal aka Kukusut
He ain’t no Mosby but he makes up for that when he’s on a board. Surviving only on a diet of steeze and juice, you can usually find him destroying wheels at your local favourite spot. Say hello to Adam, the only president you will meet who can pull off a mullet.
For the flow.. haha now that I recall it, I laughed at people who skated shortboard, because it seemed impossible to even land an ollie, or a kickflip (I’m still trying). However peer pressure from Mambu (Msia local brand) folks brought me to try it out, this plank on four wheels. Carved, crashed, hooked ever since.
What’s your current setup?
Skatement Topmount 24, 26″ wheel base maple board aka Betty, Caliber 44′ and Sector 9 yellow Raceforms.
Best place you’ve skated?
Never skated outside of Malaysia. Malaysia! 10K Hill, KKB Freeride.
Your worst injury?
Happened before I took skating seriously. Skitched a random pickup which accelerated like a bawse. No gloves, no helmet… Quote from Afuan “Sorry, hands!” and scraped half of my palms.
Favourite skate tunes?
There’s always too many, but for now it’s Classixx – Holding On
Who do you look up to skate-wise?
Mr Kyle Chin and Adam&Adam. They basically brought the whole fuckin’ lot with Let Go.
Also the pair Mr Fakoi and Izzy, taking hits after hits but still always sooooo stoked.
Tell us a secret.
I can early grab as high as I can hippie jump
What do you do when you’re not skating?
Laugh and learn! Write and sing.
Any advice for beginners reading this?
Wear your safety gears! Quote from Ben Shane “skin melting” or skull cracking when you crash is just no fun.
Take your time but do go everywhere and try every obstacle out, and hopefully one day we can all skate everything (I’m a beginner too =P)
What do you hope to achieve in the next year?
For longboarding to become a legit sport and mode of transportation, and remain that way.
